The track leads through native bush and tussock slopes, stopping at a little day shelter just below summit.
Intermediate // The steady climb to the summit is challenging, but pleasant and steepens towards the end. It is a great introduction to day hikes and suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.
A combination of native NZ bush and 360 degree views of our epic Canterbury plains and alps makes this a must do. An optional, short side trip to the stunning Rata Falls.
Quality of the track is good as this is a popular local spot - and is well loved and maintained. Regardless, you will need to prepare for all weather as this track is exposed to the elements. Good hiking boots or trainers and poles will help. Bring plenty of water and snacks to refill your energy along the way!
This hike will take approximately 10 hours to complete from leaving the centre of Christchurch.
Our Bushmen and women have lived in this region their whole lives. They do this hike multiple times with our visitors and know it like the back of their compass. You're in great hands here and will leave with some extra knowledge and a story or two.
