// Overall Track Information
The drive to the carpark (located around the Remarkables Ski Field) offers stunning views of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu and the Southern Alps making this trip a stunning one from the get-go. This well-marked track follows a pleasant trail through boulders and alpine scrub, and later tussocks. Lake Alta is a Lord of the Rings filming location (Dimrill Dale, featured in the scene after the Fellowship escapes from the Mines of Moria) making this relatively popular, but also worthy to be used in one of the world's most successful franchises. After Lake Alta, you will continue to Wye Creek saddle, where the descent into the Wye Creek Valley begins (steep descent over boulders, tussocks and later through native beech forest), but a true representation of our Otago wild. Lower Wye Creek Route features a natural waterfall that cascades down into Lake Wakatipu and native beech forest and then again with stunning views over Lake Wakatipu. The last part of the track follows a pipeline from a rock bluff down to the dam where you will begin to end your trip.
